With more than 16 years of surgical experience, Dr. Travis has world-class training in cardiothoracic and general surgery, completing more than 2,200 open heart surgeries and 550 TAVR's during his career. As the first cardiovascular surgeon in the Lexington Medical Center network of care, he helped to establish a premier, comprehensive heart program at the hospital that includes open heart surgery and elective angioplasty.

Dr. Travis’ expertise spans all areas of the cardiovascular care, including transcatheter aortic valve replacement, laser-lead extraction surgery, vascular wall biology, restenosis and remodeling, diastolic cardiac dysfunction and renovascular hypertension, paradoxical embolus and extracorporeal rewarming. He is also certified by the American Board of Surgery, the American Board of Thoracic Surgery and the National Board of Medical Examiners.

Background

Dr. Travis received his undergraduate degree in mathematics from Clemson University in S.C. After graduating cum laude from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine, he completed his cardiothoracic and general surgery residencies at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C., where he also became a Bradshaw Research Fellow.
